Explore collection management

Ten things every collector
should know.

Practical knowledge for protecting, organizing and enjoying wine—whether it lives at home, at LAC or in more than one place.

01

Insure the collection wherever it lives

+

LAC protects its facility and operations; collectors remain responsible for wine coverage at home and in off-site storage. Ask your insurance professional whether a rider or scheduled collection coverage can be added to an existing policy.

02

Temperature stability matters

+

A steady cellar near its intended range is usually more important than chasing a perfect single reading.

03

Humidity supports the whole cellar

+

Appropriate humidity helps protect corks, labels, cases and the cellar environment.

04

Know who to call before a failure

+

Keep your refrigeration service and emergency collection contacts available before the cellar begins warming.

05

Inventory is part of protection

+

Accurate bottle, location and value records support everyday enjoyment, insurance conversations and emergency decisions.

06

Photograph important bottles and cases

+

Condition records can help establish provenance and document a collection over time.

07

Receiving deserves a process

+

Heat exposure, leakage, ullage and shipping damage should be noticed before a bottle disappears into the cellar.

08

Maintenance is preventative care

+

Regular system service can surface developing problems before they become collection-threatening events.

09

Plan moves around the wine

+

Packing, transport, climate, timing and the destination layout should be coordinated as one project.

10

A collection should remain enjoyable

+

Good organization, drinking-window context and clear placement make the right bottle easier to find and open.

About collection insuranceRead guidance

In many cases, adding appropriate wine coverage to an existing policy may be considerably more economical than purchasing a separate standalone policy. Coverage and terms vary; tell your insurance professional the collection’s value and every place it is stored, and confirm the coverage in writing.

begin with
context.

Valuing a collection. Deciding what to buy, drink, hold or sell. Planning for an estate or a new direction. We bring experience and discretion to the decisions that shape a collection.
